Downtown Temple

Located just minutes from Temple homes for sale, the city's historic downtown district offers a charming blend of classic buildings and contemporary amenities. Our real estate agents share some of the attractions that make downtown Temple so special.

  • Czech Heritage Museum & Genealogy Center - 119 W. French Ave., Temple, TX 76502
The Austrian Empire Revolutions of 1848 triggered a steady stream of Czech immigrants to Central Texas. As a result, Texas now has more Czech-American residents than any other state. The Czech Heritage Museum honors their past while looking to the present and future. On the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m., "Night at the Museum" focuses on a specific theme of interest to the community. Come by on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. for Tarok, a lively card game dating back to the Renaissance. Museum hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and admission is free.

  • Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum - 315 W. Ave. B, Temple, TX 76501
Learn the fascinating story of Temple's role in the transportation industry with a visit to the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum. The depot housing the museum was also the Southern Division headquarters of the legendary Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, memorialized in song by Judy Garland. In addition to railroad-specific permanent exhibits on the second floor, the museum hosts temporary exhibits featuring more general themes. The current exhibit, Awkward Family Photos, runs through September 1. Museum hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $2-$4, with no charge for kids under 5 years old.

  • The Wilson House - 1714 S. 61st St., Temple, TX 76504
Mid-century modern is an interior design and architectural style that remains popular and influential today. Wilsonart, an international manufacturer and distributor of composite materials, originated in Temple in 1956. The Wilson House, home of company founder Ralph Wilson, serves as a time capsule showcasing the best of mid-century modern design. In 1998, the Wilson House was named a Texas National Landmark and received a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Tours are available on weekdays by appointment.

  • First Friday - 5 S. Main St., Temple, TX 76501
Experience all the incredible activities and attractions downtown Temple has to offer on the First Friday of every month. Find great sales at the delightful boutiques and independent shops, or pick up a one-of-a-kind item from the Artist 2 Artist Showcase. Challenge your kids to find all eight of the colorful art trains placed around the streets as live music keeps energy levels high. Enjoy food and beverages at the Yard Food Truck Plaza or one of the great downtown restaurants and brewpubs. Each month features a different theme based on a holiday or season. Free parking is available in the City Hall lot. Festivities take place from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

  • Fire Base Brewing Company - 8 S. 1st St., Temple, TX 76501
Fire Base Brewing Company is the first locally owned-and-operated craft brewery in Temple. Former Marine JD McBride and his wife Stacy Zemp opened Fire Base as a tribute to the military and a gathering place for the local community. There's nearly always something going on, whether it's live music or events such as Trivia Night, Name that Tune Bingo, and Family Game Show Night.
